Project 2: Tectonics: Design Principles, Anthropometric and Ergonomic Exploration.
For assignment 2, we are required to develop a tectonic model using the given materials which are timber, as the main material and rope, steel, tensile and fabric as the supporting materials. We will be exploring the materiality, architectural elements and principles that we learnt from the first assignment with anthropometry and ergonomics. Final design or model were to be made following the scale to accommodate a static banal action.
My concept for the design I made is relaxation through the feeling of seating under the tree. As for my personal experience, I always have a thought of seating under a tree outside of my house whenever I feels stress due to the work especially as an architecture students. So, I was thinking, what if I design a space that could really give me the feeling or experience of sitting under a tree. And my chosen banal action is sitting because it suits the narrative well and I made the structures into four section for four different seating positions and some tree branches element on top of the structures to give the exact lighting as the sun goes through the tree branch.
